water in the basement

FE Gallery, Pittsburgh PA / plastic jugs, water, cardboard, ashes and basement dirt

My mother fought a life-long battle with major depression. Over a thirty-year period she became increasingly anxious and panic-ridden. In 1998, the threat of Y2K
sent her anxiety disorder into high gear, and she went to great lengths to stockpile food and water to ensure survival for herself and her family after this event.
Years later when my mother was placed in a long-term health facility for safety reasons, my sister and I started the task of cleaning out her estate. In the
basement of her home, under piles of broken furniture and boxes, I uncovered a haunting reminder to the severity of her illness.
